So one tradition that I have always wanted to participate in with the children, but have never been able is to go see the lights lit on Temple Square. One of the reasons I am so excited about our move to Utah is the chance for them to experience this special place at one of the most special times of the year. In all the hustle and bustle of Christmas, I never want my children to forget that Jesus Christ is the reason for the celebrations at Christmas time. This trip was special because we got to introduce my cousin Erin to one of the greatest symbols of our church, the temple. I hope she enjoyed her time there as well. As we were walking the grounds I thought about the symbols of Christmas and resolved to try to make giving and Christ a greater part of our celebration this year and to try to focus a bit less on extravagant gifts for us and our children. Although, I get carried away easily with Christmas I think that this mindset really helped me to start to cut out some of the lesser fluff and enjoy the holiday more than I ever had (I still could work on this more in the coming years!). What a fabulous way to begin the holidays...I think this tradition will continue as long as we are near enough to make it here!
